Mary,
I just finished watching the Great Divide Race on Netflix and loved it! I was surprised to see a woman racing at all, ( I know, I know) but found myself cheering you on. When your legs were so swollen I wanted you to quit for fear you were hurting yourself. When you came back I cheered! When you were emotionally worn out on Colorado I was yelling “Don’t quit now Mary! Don’t quit!” When you quit I understood but cried anyway. When you came back I hooped, hollered and cried again! I’m a 65 year old man who lived the race vicariously through you and for whatever it’s worth I’m proud of you.
The saddest thing about being 65 is realizing all the things you’re not going to do in life. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. You realized a wonderful dream and you overcame the toughest obstacle in life, your own mind. You keep doing that and you’ll have no regrets later. I’m going to be watching.
My best,
Rick Parker
